EVALUATION

A comprehensive, diagnostic hearing evaluation is conducted to determine the type and severity of your hearing loss.

What do you need?

COMMUNICATION NEEDS ASSESSMENT

An in depth discussion involving your audiogram and communication needs help form a recommendation for the of type and level of technology that best fits your lifestyle. Different kinds of devices (include hearing aids, personal sound amplifier systems (PSAP), assistive listening device (ALD), etc.) are discussed.

Technology

HEARING AID FITTINGS AND ORIENTATION

If hearing aids are selected, an electroacoustic analysis is run (in a “test box”) to confirm they meet approved standards. The hearing aids are programmed to your specific hearing loss (as determined on the audiogram). Real ear measurements are used to determine the accuracy of the programming. Included in the appointment is an orientation to the hearing aid, its use, its care and maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.

Hearing

HEARING AID PROGRAMMING

If you already have hearing aids and a recent audiogram determines your hearing has changed, your hearing aids should be adjusted. If you have hearing aids from another provider, it may be possible to reprogram your hearing aids. Please let us know the brand and model of your hearing aids when making this appointment.

Hearing

HEARING AID CHECKS

Hearing aids need regular maintenance and checks. This appointment includes electroacoustic analysis as well as a thorough inspection and cleaning.

Management

TINNITUS EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT

A tinnitus evaluation helps “put a face” on your tinnitus. Part of the evaluation includes determining its pitch and loudness level and whether masking is an appropriate form of management. Immediately following the evaluation, educational counseling and management options are discussed.

Custom

CUSTOM EARMOLDS

Custom made earmolds can be made for swimming, sound protection, or hearing aid receivers. A custom earmold impression is made in the office and sent to specific facilities depending on the product to be made.

Rehabilitation

AURAL REHABILITATION

Even with appropriately fitted hearing aids, some people continue to have difficulty understanding speech. Aural rehabilitation appointments help increase speech understanding by learning and using communication strategies, speech reading, etc.
